"Spinnaker
I Know What This Medal Is For 2007 » Self-Released
posted Mon Apr 16th, 2007 On Spinnaker’s I Know What This Medal Is For, the listener is listlessly taken through a journey of a young man’s roots. A simple strumming of the guitar behind the warm tones of Spinnaker’s vocals carries the CD from song to song. I enjoy the distinguished folk flare that Spinnaker commits to in this album. On the other hand, I am intrigued by the thought of how others may interpret this album. I enjoy the raw sound that is produced here, but I feel that others may not take to this album so quickly. Folk music isn’t for everyone, but I’m glad to see that Spinnaker isn’t afraid of that. He is true to his roots. He tells descriptive stories of being a boy growing up in a world covered in country dust, and how he lives his current life with respect to where he has come from. – Megan Leppla"
I am playing at the Four Winds Cafe at New College on Sunday with the deep and holy sea and cassette, I am excited!

on february first I will have new album recorded. call it a new years resolution, call it doing my own thing, call it whatever you want. I apologize on school night record's behalf for the tardiness of the "I know what this medal is for" LP, but it is out of my hands. I have been working on alot of neat stuff lately though, and I am self releasing this one...so this one will be available february first. scouts honor.

destiny is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. the picture you have in your own mind of what you're about will come true. It's a kind of thing you have to keep to your own self, because it's a fragile feeling, and you put it out there, then someone will kill it. it's best to keep that all inside.

Johnny sure is a real boy He knows how to make me Feel like I’m breaking. So I let him take me, Along for his car rides. Knowing the whole time That we’re going no where.
Susie don’t know how to treat me Thinks she don’t need me She abuse and mistreat me. Someday, ill be a soldier Someday when I’m older And she’ll need a shoulder And I will be gone.
So finish your stout And get out on the dance floor Shout the hurt out And then shout for some more. Hold hands with all of the girls Hold hands with all of the boys. And make that beautiful noise.
Music is the language our souls hear It’s all that we’ve got here To pass through the days. Beauty fades into darkness Youth will fade into years. So take your drumset Mr amazing And play us to tears.

3. Spinnaker
"What is going on with Florida? I mean it…for weeks and weeks I haven’t heard anything great from Florida and then one week there are two great bands I find out about. Spinnaker is the work of Jonathan Spinnaker out of Gainesville. He talks about liking Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Johnny Cash and you can definitely hear the latter especially in the guitar line of “Lay Them Down.” His vocals are much more of a tenor than Cash, though, and you can sense he’s actually smiling when he’s singing. It’s totally possible this dear fellow was just born way too late because had he been around in the late 50s and throughout the 60s, he would have toured with Dylan and might be a household name by now."
kind words are always nice :)
if anyone knows anyone who reviews albums, my album is out and it would be nice to see what magazine/blogozine people think
